The Chevrolet Bolt EUV 2022 is a 200-mile electric car that goes from 0 to 60 in less than six seconds, and it’s about the size of a Toyota Camry. But, as Stephanie Miller says in CNET’s hands-on review of the vehicle, “the Bolt EV feels more like an electric luxury sedan with some tech baked in.
Overall, the Chevy will relieve you of any worries about range anxiety while still providing enough energy for daily commutes. It should make everyone happy, and it’s the car GM needed to build to show its intent in the electric space.
The Chevy Bolt EV will be available for pre-order in California and Oregon on 8 November. It arrives in showrooms nationwide on 2 December. Prices have not been announced yet.
Chevrolet bolt EUV 2022 first insight
The Chevy Bolt EV is GM’s first long-range electric vehicle that’s being built by Chevrolet, and it remains to be seen whether or not it will do the company any good. But if you ask me (and you are), this electric car is a thing of beauty. Actually, it’s so beautiful that I don’t want to park in my own driveway for fear of scratching the paint job.
That’s not to say that the Bolt EV lacks power. In fact, it has the most power of any electric car its size. The car can go from 0 to 60 in less than six seconds, which is faster than some V-8 cars on the road today. On top of that, its battery range pushes 200 miles on a single charge without breaking a sweat.
However, it’s the first electric car where you don’t have to wonder whether or not you can finish your daily commute. “It’s got a lot of range (and) it only takes two hours to charge it for 80 percent of its maximum range,” said Adam Sparks. “I think both my brother and I (will) be very happy with that super-long drive time.”
The Chevy Bolt is a car that’s all about efficiency. It can go 200 miles on a single charge, but it can also save you about $2,300 a year when it comes to gas money. The vehicle gets 238 miles per gallon in highway driving and 119 mpg while doing city driving. That’s pretty strong for an electric car.
The main drawback, though, is the price. The Bolt EV starts at $37,500 before any government rebates and incentives. That’s a lot of money for a car that you’ll only be able to drive in four states – California, Oregon, Massachusetts, and Connecticut – as well as Washington D.C., where GM has a plant to build the vehicle.
What’s even more curious is the fact that GM is selling the vehicle for $37,500. a lot of us will prefer a gas-powered chevy for that amount of money. But it looks like GM is in the early stages of creating an electric car that will appeal to all consumers, not just those who want to save money on gas or those who want to become environmentally conscious.
“I was writing a trip report for Chevy Bolt EV and the crazy thing is I was actually enjoying it,” said Ryan Evans. “It gives me that sweet electric feeling, but also I’m getting the same sort of performance and speeds I get with my gas-powered car as well. It’s pretty awesome.”
The Chevrolet Bolt EV is a car that will probably appeal to people who are in it for the long haul, not just for the speed and range. It’s remaining as a four-state car, which doesn’t make sense to me. Montana will be getting their own Chevy Bolt later this year or early next year. Perhaps this electric range is more than enough to keep most people happy, but I still want to go beyond that.
