1957 Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder – $10 million
If you ask a Ferrari enthusiast, he’ll probably tell you that the most valuable car in the Ferrari stable is the 250 GT California Spyder. Quite simply, it’s the quickest and most beautiful model in production at that time. Nevertheless, it’s not a pure track-only racer or even a lightweight roadster. Instead, it’s so perfect that its contemporaries often cite it as an inspiration for their design.
The California Spyder was a stylish convertible based on the 250 GT Competizione. However, where the Competizione was a track-only racer built for racing, the California Spyder was designed solely for the road. Naturally, it had all of the specs needed to make it a great racer–lightweight bodywork in aluminum and steel and an alloy V12 engine with three double-barrel Weber carbs. But even with all of its greatness, Ferrari still produced only 100 examples between 1956 and 1958. And thanks to its storied racing history, you probably don’t want to put one on the road.
1962 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta ‘Testa Rossa’ – $9.5 million
The 250 GT Berlinetta ‘Testa Rossa’ is an old model from Ferrari, this is probably why it made the list as one of the most expensive ferraris, with a few honors under its belt. Originally designed by Pininfarina, it was upgraded by Scaglietti in 1960 and resulted in the 1962 model. It’s one of the last pure racing cars designed by Pininfarina, and was raced in the Sports Car Club of America GT Championship in 1961 and 1962. Despite its racing intentions, it had all of the proper racing specifications, including a weight reduction effort that managed to shave off more than 545 pounds from its original weight.
The Berlinetta was powered by a 3.0-liter V12 engine with three double-barrel Weber carbs. But even at the 1962 model year, the engine was a little outdated since it never got fuel injection or four-wheel disc brakes. Still, it was one of the most expensive Ferrari models during its time–so much so that ‘Testa Rossa’ became a model name for some of its successors.
1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa – $8 million
The 250 Testa Rossa is probably the most important racing car in Ferrari’s history. It’s also considered to be the car that gained Enzo Ferrari the respect he deserved in racing circles. As a result, it has a unique distinction from most Ferraris, which are usually modeled after Rolex watches. Uniquely, the Testa Rossa is named after a racehorse of the same nameand while it was never raced by the horse itself, it took home some of Ferrari’s earliest victories in racing.
The Testa Rossa has a 3.0-liter V12 engine with three double-barrel Weber carbs and a six-speed manual transmission. And while the power may seem low when compared to modern Ferraris, its braking distance was better than most of its contemporaries due to the 16-inch disc brakes introduced for that model year. The only drawback to these brakes was that they had to be manually pumped after every use… which is why Ferrari never designed any other models with them.

The 250 SWB California Spyder was the first Ferrari to be produced by Scuderia Ferrari, and it’s still listed as the most expensive Ferrari model in history. In fact, it was so successful that it was deemed a prototype for all of its successors. Under the hood, you’ll find a 3.0-liter V12 engine with three double-barrel Weber carbs and four-wheel disc brakes. It’s a lightweight two-seater with a hard top that weighs just 1,000 pounds.
The bodywork is made of fiberglass and carbon composites, making it extremely lightweight. though one of the most expensive Ferraris in history, it is not the most powerful or fastest. That honor goes to the 250 GTO, which you can see below.

But even with its power and beauty that was only matched by the Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa, only 633 examples were ever produced.
The Speciale’s most notable feature is its double-bubble roof, which was used on some of Maranello’s priciest models during the 1960s.
