Audi R8German automaker Audi introduced the road Audi R8 in 2007, the name having been earlier used for the successful race car Audi R8. This mid-engined sports car had its first appearance in 2006, based on the Audi “Le Mans Quattro” concept. Like the Audi RS4, it has 4.2 l V8 engine with FSI petrol direct injection and 414 horsepower. Audi R8 has a six-speed manual transmission best suited for the streets - estimated at $109 000 - and a R-Tronic paddle-shift gearbox designed for the track – estimated at $118 000. This 2-seat coupe is available in Europe and will also be available in the U.S. in the summer of 2008. Many reviewers have nominated the Audi R8 the best sports car, even though it has been placed in tight competition with Porsche Carrera 4S, regarding their performance, price and specification.
The Audi R8 may overall look small but it is unexpectedly spacious inside with a wheelbase of 2.65 meters. Unfortunately there won’t be enough room for heavy luggage or too many bags. Also, the low sit of the car will make it a bit uncomfortable and annoying to always duck when you get in or out – but, then again, this is what you can expect from every sports car. In terms of style, Audi R8 has kept the signature of the brand, the curved arch of the roof and the clear-cut lines.
The engine is placed behind the driver and is visible from the outside through a transparent cover. It reaches from zero to 100km in about 4.6 seconds with a maximum speed of 300 km. For a street sports car, the performance has been applauded. Its weight is of approximately 1560 kg, with the body made of innovative aluminum. The European version will feature the successful use of all-LED headlights. The European Audi R8 will also be the first production vehicle to feature all-LED headlights that have a 3D effect, starting from the end of 2007.These LED light resembles very much the natural light of day. Audi R8 performs technological innovation by adapting the suspension in milliseconds, according to the type of road and the style of the driver.
Inside every specification is refined and attentively positioned to fulfill the need of functionality. The R8 features 465 watts optional Bang & Olufsen sound system. The seats are textured in combined Alcantara/Leather and the 18-inch wheels are fitted on cast alloy wheels. Other options include rearview camera and deluxe automatic air conditioning.
